Visa and Entry Permit – University of Hilla

Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs Visa Regulations

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stipulates that visa holders must enter Iraq through official entry points designated by the competent governmental authorities, whether by land, sea, or air. Additionally, their passport or travel document must be valid for at least six months and should grant them the right to return to the issuing country or another authorized destination.

A visa is granted only with the approval of the Ministry’s headquarters after the applicant completes the visa application form, which is reviewed by the consulate and forwarded to the Ministry. The Ministry, in turn, coordinates with the Ministry of Interior / Residency Directorate to obtain approval for issuing the visa. The Consular Department then informs the embassy of the decision upon receiving the response from the Residency Directorate, whether positive or negative.

Visa Exemptions and Fee Waivers

The following categories are exempt from entry visa requirements and fees:

  1. Foreign students enrolled at the University of Hillah and other Iraqi universities, institutes, and schools under cultural exchange agreements, upon submission of proof of acceptance and continued enrollment in academic programs.
  2. Foreign employees contracted to work for the Iraqi government, provided they submit valid employment documentation.
  3. Foreign journalists, based on reciprocal agreements between Iraq and their home country.
